The Falmouth Bookseller kindly allowed us to use their window for two days during September 2004. This was the first opportunity that we had to exhibit some of the artworks which we had made as a result of our initial brainstorming of 'Tanks & Tablecloths'.

The installation of the work took place after the shop had closed on two consectutive evenings and remained in place throughout the following day, which made for a extremely fast turnaround. The artworks were made and the layout planned prior to installation.

The two displays were based around the phrases "Protect & Survive" and "Spit & Polish", which have connotations with both the military and the domestic. "Protect & Survive" comprised a blanket and paper letters, and a laser cut tablelcoth. "Spit & Polish" was made from vinyl cut text and leather cutlery.

We felt it was important to incorporate the inherent nature of the location. As the installation was in a retail environment, in addition to installing the artworks, we also 'curated' relevant books in the two side windows which related to the subject matter.
